Typical Duties
- Set up and prepare heat treating equipment according to specifications
and work orders. This includes installing fixtures, loading materials,
and adjusting controls.
- Operate heat treating machinery, such as furnaces, ovens, and quenching
tanks, to process metal and plastic parts. Duties involve monitoring
temperature, time, and pressure settings for optimal results.
- Load materials into the equipment using hoists, overhead cranes, or
manually as required. Proper handling and placement of materials are
crucial for uniform heat distribution.
- Monitor the progress of heat treating processes, making adjustments
to controls as needed. Attention to detail is essential to ensure precise
heat treatment cycles.
- Perform tests and inspections on treated materials to verify conformance
to specifications. Quality checks may include hardness testing, visual
inspections, and dimensional measurements.
- Adjust quenching processes to achieve desired material properties
and minimize distortion. Knowledge of metallurgy and plastic properties
is beneficial for effective quenching.
- Remove finished products from equipment and inspect for defects or
irregularities. Careful handling and inspection ensure product quality
and adherence to standards.
- Clean and maintain heat treating equipment to ensure proper functioning

- Record production data, process parameters, and quality control measurements

Experience and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in heat treating
or metallurgy preferred.
- Previous experience as a Heat Treating Equipment Operator or similar
role in a manufacturing setting.
- Knowledge of heat treatment processes, metallurgy, and plastic properties.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and technical
specifications.
- Familiarity with operating and monitoring heat treating equipment,
including furnaces and quenching tanks.
- Understanding of safety protocols and procedures for handling hot
materials and equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and precision in following heat treatment
cycles and quality checks.
- Physical stamina for lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
during equipment operation.
- Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and
make adjustments.
- Good communication skills to collaborate with team members and supervisors.
