Job Description Milling and Planing Machine Setters, Operators, and Tenders at ForseMark are integral to the manufacturing process, responsible for setting up and operating machines to shape and finish metal products. They play a crucial role in producing high-quality components and ensuring precision in the manufacturing process.

Typical Duties

• Set up milling and planing machines according to specifications and work orders.
  
• Install cutting tools, adjust controls, and secure workpieces in the machine.
  
• Program machine parameters, including speed, feed rate, and depth of cut.
  
• Monitor machine operations, observing gauges and indicators for proper functioning.
  
• Operate milling and planing machines to shape, cut, and finish metal products.
  
• Adjust machine settings and tool offsets to achieve desired dimensions and surface finishes.
  
• Inspect workpieces during and after machining for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.
  
• Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions.
  
• Make adjustments to tooling, feeds, and speeds to optimize machining processes.
  
• Replace worn or damaged cutting tools and maintain tooling inventory.
  
• Clean and maintain machines, workpieces, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  
• Troubleshoot machine malfunctions and perform minor repairs as needed.
  
• Record production data, including quantities, dimensions, and specifications.
  
• Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and team members to meet production goals.
  
• Follow safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and company policies at all times.
• Duties may vary based on specific products, materials, and machining processes within the company.

Experience and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in machining or related field preferred.
  
• Previous experience as a Milling Machine Operator, Planing Machine Operator, or similar role.
  
• Knowledge of milling and planing machine operations, tooling, and machining techniques.
  
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  
• Proficiency in setting up and programming CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines is a plus.
  
• Experience with precision measuring instruments and metrology equipment.
  
• Strong mathematical skills for calculations, measurements, and adjustments.
  
• Attention to detail and precision in machining to achieve tight tolerances and surface finishes.
  
• Physical stamina for standing, bending, and lifting during machine setup and operation.
  
• Problem-solving skills to identify and troubleshoot machining issues.
  
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and supervisors.
